The basic method for linking rubber bands with a hook
This basic method is very useful for making simple bracelets, adding more bands to lengthen a bracelet, and working all the other jewelry designs. It can be done with a hook or a loom. Follow these instructions for the basic method of linking rubber bands together with a hook. You will need several green, orange and pink rubber bands.

1- Fold a green rubber band in half over a hook.
2- Attach both ends of the folded band to one end of an S-clip.
3- The green band will now sit on the hook without you having to hold it.
4- Take a yellow rubber band and wrap it around the tip of the hook.
5- Twist the yellow band a little around the tip of the hook to stop it slipping.
6- Pass the yellow band through both ends of the green band, holding the other end of the yellow band between your thumb and index finger.

7- Lift the other end of the yellow band up and onto the hook.
8- Insert the hook into the left end of the yellow band.
9- Now take a pink rubber band, twist it onto the tip of the hook and pass it through the orange band, as before.
10- Keep linking the bands of your choice together until the design reaches the right length.
11- Carefully slide the two loops on the hook (the two ends of the green band) off it, then attach them to the other end of the S-clip.
12- The design is now finished and held in place by the clip.

The basic method for linking rubber bands on a loom

This basic method is very useful for making simple bracelets, adding more bands to lengthen a bracelet, and working all the other jewelry designs. It can be done with a hook or a loom. Follow these instructions for the basic method of linking rubber bands together on a loom. You will need 7 blue, 6 pink, 6 orange and 6 yellow rubber bands.

1- Referring to "Setting up the loom" in the "Tools and materials" section, set up the loom and turn it so the open side of the C-shaped plastic pegs faces up (away from you). Wrap the bands around the pegs diagonally (in a zigzag), starting with the bottom middle peg and following the number sequence shown opposite.
2- Turn the loom 180 degrees. Start looping the bands together by inserting the hook into the groove of the bottom middle peg and picking up the yellow band. Lift that band and loop it onto the peg it came from, that is, the top left peg.
3- Next, take the orange band on that same peg and loop it onto the top right peg, the peg it came from.

4- Keep moving the bands onto the plastic pegs diagonally, each time looping the band back to the peg it came from, so the bands appear as shown in the picture.
5- Attach both ends of the last band to one end of an S-clip to hold the linked bands in place.
6- Gently remove the design from the loom, holding it by the clip.
7- Attach the other end of the clip to both ends of the yellow band at the other end of the bracelet. Then cut off the extra blue band to finish the design.
