Compiled by Taghreed Al-Najjar, illustrated by Hiba Farran. Counting games and rhymes are popular among children in many cultures. This book contains many traditional counting rhymes related to basic numeracy. Some of these rhymes help children learn to count to ten, while others are simply a fun way for children to play with numbers. Children have used some counting rhymes in their play, and they may even have invented them themselves. In the "counting out" game, for example, one child chants the rhyme while pointing to each child in turn; when the rhyme ends, the child it stops on leaves the game. In this way the children are eliminated one by one, and the last child remaining leads the game.
